It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Derek W. Potts Sr., of Slippery Rock, who passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, at the age of 57.

Derek was born Nov. 25, 1968, and was originally from Chester, Pa. He was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family and previously worked at AK Steel in Butler.

Derek found joy in the simple things in life. He loved being outdoors, riding his motorcycle and spending time with family and friends. He greatly enjoyed coaching Little League and Pony League baseball in the Slippery Rock area. Some of his happiest moments were spent surrounded by the people he loved, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Above all, Derek was a beloved and loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene K. Potts; his children, Sydney Mulford (Nicholas Mulford) and Derek Potts Jr. (Christen Potts); and his siblings, Dana Henderson (Mike Henderson) and his twin brother, David Potts (Kelly Potts). Derek and David shared the unique and lifelong bond of being twins, a connection that will forever remain a special part of their family. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Rhonda Monfredi (Gerald Monfredi); and several beloved nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Derek is also survived by his mother, Audrey Jackson; and his dad, Thomas Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Potts.

Derek’s passing leaves a hole in the hearts of his family and friends that can never truly be filled. There will be motorcycles that remind us of him, places outdoors that bring back memories, stories that make us smile and countless moments when we wish he was still here to share them with us.

Although his life was far too short, Derek’s memory will live on through the people he loved, the friendships he built, the family he cherished and the memories he left behind.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten.

Rest peacefully.

POTTS — The family of Derek W. Potts Sr., who died Monday, Sept. 28, 2026, will receive family and friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, and from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Services will be led by Pastor Michael Bruno, of the ABBA Christian Center, Slippery Rock.
