Helen W. Evans, 88, of Woodland Place in Mercer, formerly of Sharpsville, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday at the Sharon Regional Hospital in Mercer County.

Born in Petrolia, Nov. 16, 1918, she was the daughter of Carl and Carrie Hagerson Wheeler.

She had taught school in Karns City for 10 years and also had worked at the Bruin Methodist Church for 20 years.

Mrs. Evans was a member of the former Hickory Baptist Church in Sharpsville.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Alma) Metz of Greenville; a son, Carl W. Evans of Karns City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A sister, Mrs. Eleanor Jack of Monroeville, also survives.

Her husband, Richard E. Evans, whom she married Dec. 24, 1945, died Sept. 9, 1971. Two brothers, Romain and Donald Wheeler, preceded her in death.

<B>EVANS </B>— There will be no visitation. A memorial service for Helen W. Evans, who died Sunday, March 18, 2007, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home</B>, 2201 Highland Road, Hermitage, with the Rev. Cuthbert Jack officiating. Burial will be at be at Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.
