Charles McCormick Sr.
Charles T. McCormick Sr., of Mars, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Wednesday evening, Sept. 23, 2026, at the age of 89.
He was born Oct. 7, 1936, and raised in Valencia. He graduated in 1955 from Mars Area High School and later proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, in Fort Benning.
In 1956, Charles married the love of his life, JoAnn, and together they shared 70 years of marriage. They made their home in Mars, where they built a life centered around family, hard work and love. He was a lifelong member of LifePointe Alliance church.
In 1964, he opened C.T. McCormick Hardware in Zelienople, a business that became an important part of his life and the community. He took great pride in his work and in helping others.
He was a member of John E. Mair Lodge 729 F&AM, and had been a board member for many years with Mars Housing at Penn Mar Plaza.
Charles loved cars, trains, traveling, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was known for his incredibly sweet and gentle nature, which was equaled only by his love of a good cookie. He was kind, generous, loving and always willing to help. To those who knew him, he was not only a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, but someone whose warmth and goodness made all who met him feel valued and cared for.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn; his sons, Chuck Jr. (Diane) and Jeff (Barb); his grandchildren, Joe (Caitlin) McCormick, Steve (Naudia) McCormick and Emily (Jeremy) McGuire; and his great-grandchildren, Claire, Lily and Zailey McCormick, and Ashlynn, Colin and Evan McGuire.
He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and who will carry his memory with them. His life was one of love, devotion, hard work and generosity, and his presence will be deeply missed.
