Butler Police are continuing their search for a man who briefly struggled with an officer and fired a round from a handgun before fleeing the scene on foot late Friday night.

The police officer was not injured in the incident, which took place when he approached a “suspicious individual” in Memorial Park just before midnight.

“Upon approach, a handgun was viewed in the subject’s hand,” according to a news release from the Butler City Police Department. “A struggle ensued and a shot was fired by the subject, nearly striking the officer.”

The suspect fled on foot into the nearby woods, which were searched by Butler Police, Butler Township Police and Pennsylvania State Police.

Still at large and considered “armed and dangerous,” the suspect was described as a white male, about 6 feet tall, wearing the light-gray hooded sweat shirt. He may have been covered with mud from his struggle with the officer.
