Dispatchers file grievances over fatal-fire discipline

DOYLESTOWN — A group of 911 dispatchers are filing grievances after being disciplined for their response to a deadly fire.

Authorities in Bucks County say that 10 emergency dispatchers were not busy when a disabled woman called 911 to report that her bed was on fire.

Yet they say it took 27 seconds before someone answered, and victim Brenda Orr was then put on hold for another 27 seconds. She died in the Jan. 29 fire.

A union says that 11 dispatchers are filing grievances over their discipline.

County officials say the dispatcher who answered the phone should not have.
