PITTSBURGH

PITTSBURGH — Another church in Allegheny County is seeking to quit the Presbyterian Church USA for a smaller, more biblically conservative group.

The Rev. Doug Portz of the Pittsburgh Presbytery said the congregation of the Fourth Presbyterian Church voted 27-2 on Sunday for the split.

Portz said the Pittsburgh church's pastor intends to remain with the national church and Fourth Presbyterian isn't asking to keep its property. But Portz said a property settlement will be worked out before the presbytery votes on the church's request to leave the national denomination.

Three churches in the Pittsburgh Presbytery have now voted to join the conservative Evangelical Presbyterian Church: Beverly Heights Presbyterian Church voted to split early last year and was dismissed by the Presbytery in October. Memorial Park Presbyterian Church voted in June of last year to request a dismissal, which is still pending.
