PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh's Birmingham Bridge is open to traffic after being closed for nearly a month due to structural damage.

One lane of traffic in each direction was reopened early this morning.

Investigators still have not determined why a 150-foot-long section of the bridge dropped from its bearings onto a pier Feb. 8.

On Saturday, workers used nearly two dozen hydraulic jacks to lift the span off the pier and onto steel shoring towers.

PITTSBURGH — Police say a Pittsburgh cab driver fatally shot a passenger who allegedly tried to rob him.Authorities say the shooting occurred Saturday night in the city's Hill District after the passenger had been picked up downtown.During the robbery attempt, the Yellow Cab driver pulled out a gun and a struggle ensued over the weapon.Police say the passenger was shot and killed during the struggle and the cab driver suffered an injury to his arm. The driver was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.Police did not release the name of the driver or the passenger.The driver was licensed to carry a gun.
