State planting trees for city anniversary
State officials are planting 250 new trees in Pittsburgh for the city's 250th anniversary celebration and plan to plant about 20,000 total in the region in the next few years.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources spent years planting 20,000 trees in and around Philadelphia.
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is coordinating the work.
The first 250 trees to commemorate the city's founding will be planted by Saturday.
