BELLE VERNON — A Fayette County man has been criminally charged after a firecracker exploded in his son's hand, badly injuring the boy.

Southwest Regional Police say 37-year-old Brandon Barcus Sr. of Belle Vernon left his 9-year-old son unattended and within reach of the M-80 and other fireworks along with a cigarette lighter on Saturday evening.

Police say the boy lit the M-80 and the explosion blew off part of the middle finger and burned other fingers on his left hand.

Authorities say the boy was taken to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where he was treated and released.

Barcus is charged with child endangerment and reckless endangerment. A message left for him was not immediately returned Tuesday evening.

PITTSBURGH — The Carnegie Science Center says its Titanic exhibition will be closed today because of a water main break.A water main break flooded an annex to the Pittsburgh museum's main building on Tuesday. The science center's "Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition" is on display in the building.The main science center building will be open to the public Wednesday. Information about the annex, known as SportsWorks, is to be released as the cleanup progresses.
