PITTSBURGH — A report by internal Justice Department investigators into the firings of nine top federal prosecutors says U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan in Pittsburgh did nothing wrong.

The report details how Buchanan was among several Justice Department officials whose input was sought in early 2005 on which of the nation's 93 U.S. attorneys should be replaced.

Buchanan said in a statement Monday the report affirms she had no role in the firings.

She testified last year before investigators for the House and Senate judiciary committees reviewing the firings, which some allege were for political reasons.

Attorney General Michael Mukasey on Monday named a prosecutor to investigate whether former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, other Bush administration officials or Republicans in Congress should face criminal charges in the firings.
