WEST NEWTON — A 150-pound gorilla statue was briefly stolen but was returned safely home by teenagers who were spotting for deer.

State police searched for the fiberglass ape Sunday after Shirley Lou Clifford reported it had been stolen from her yard.

Hours later, four teenagers drove up to her home with the ape strapped on a truck.

Gene Clifford, Shirley Lou's husband, said they told him they found the gorilla in a field about two miles from their Westmoreland County home.

The primate has been reigning over the Cliffords' swimming pool for 26 years, when Shirley Lou picked it up from a closed miniature golf course.

Police said they don't know who stole the creature.

PITTSBURGH — One person is dead and another wounded after two separate shooting incidents in the Pittsburgh area.Allegheny County police are investigating a shooting that occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Monday in West Mifflin, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 32-year-old Daniel Bracey.Hours earlier, at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, a man was shot several times in Pittsburgh. Police said the unidentified victim was shot five times in the chest and torso. He is in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital. Police said they are questioning a suspect.
