PITTSBURGH — The Heinz Endowments is giving about $10.2 million in grants to the Pittsburgh Public Schools and its community partners.

The money includes $6 million over three years for the Pittsburgh Promise, a $250 million college scholarship fund meant to improve the city's schools and stem the exodus of students from them. The program benefits exclusively students who graduate from the city's public high schools.

The gift also includes $2 million for the Fund for Excellence, which supports district improvement initiatives, and $500,000 for an arts education program.
