PITTSBURGH — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh is selling the mansion that's been home to five of its leaders.

Bishop David Zubik has instead decided to live in St. Paul's Seminary. The diocese is clearing out and storing the contents of the 24-room home, but it's not on the market yet.

Real estate agents say the 97-year-old red brick building with stone trim could fetch nearly double its appraised value of $1.5 million.

A state Historical & Museum Commission survey says the home in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood is one of the "more prominent houses in an area of substantial homes with views."

The late David I.B. McCahill, who helped form West Penn Power, the forerunner of Allegheny Power, donated his home to the diocese in 1949.
