HARRISBURG — The chairman of the Pennsylvania Crime and Delinquency Commission says in-school anti-drug programs get some credit for results of a recent survey.

The Pennsylvania Youth Survey said fewer than 29 percent of high schoolers surveyed were willing to try marijuana, compared with more than 40 percent in 2001.

The survey found nearly 18 percent of seniors did drive after drinking alcohol.

Even so, that was down from more than 21 percent in 2001.

Commission Chairman Walter Phillips Jr. points to reductions in binge drinking and drug use among both middle and high school students.

That parallels the University of Michigan's Monitoring the Future study.

That study showed that about 47 percent of high school seniors surveyed nationwide had used an illicit drug at sometime in their life.

But that was down from about 54 percent in 2001.
