BERWICK — A 23-year-old mother is charged with abandoning her newborn girl in freezing temperatures in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Jennifer Lynn Killian of Berwick remains in the Columbia County Prison on $1 million bail.

Police say the newborn was found outside a home in a plastic bag on Saturday, when temperatures dropped below 20 degrees. The infant is in protective custody after being treated at a hospital.

Police used DNA tests to link the baby to Killian. Investigators say Killian concealed her pregnancy from her parents by wearing baggy clothing.

She was charged Thursday with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and other counts.
