NEW CASTLE — A Western Pennsylvania town is considering dumping its recycling program in an attempt to save money.

New Castle City Council members say running the curbside recycling program costs them more than $40,000 a year to run the program, but it generates just $8,000.

To get rid of the program, New Castle would have to petition the state's Department of Environmental Protection and prove the recycling program is not cost-effective.

SALISBURY — A girls basketball coach at a Pennsylvania high school has been cited for disorderly conduct after scuffling with the father of one of his players.Ken Shankweiler resigned as coach of the Salisbury High School basketball team after Saturday's confrontation.Shankweiler acknowledged going into the stands during a home loss to Wilson Area High School and confronting John Hrebik, father of standout junior Caitlin Hrebik.Police say the confrontation at the school near Allentown resulted from a disagreement over "game management and strategy."

PITTSBURGH — The Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh is cutting its budget, freezing pay raises and hiring, and re-evaluating its hours due to external funding cuts.The center's senior vice president, Betty Arenth, says part of the problem is that the Allegheny County Regional Asset District is withholding 10 percent of a $400,000 grant and payments will not start until June. In addition, the center's endowment has dropped from $20 million in June to $15 million in November.Arenth says the museum has also lost more than $100,000 in income from catered events.
