PITTSBURGH — A pit bull owned by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison bit his 2-year-old son in the thigh, but the boy is expected to recover, though he remained hospitalized Friday, the player's agent said.

Harrison's agent, William Parise, said James III was bitten after his mother let the dog out of its pen Thursday afternoon. Parise wouldn't identify the woman, but said she and Harrison's massage therapist also were hurt trying to help the boy. The massage therapist needed three stitches, Parise said.

Parise said Harrison was not home at the time, but was nearby and alerted after the dog attacked. Parise has not spoken to the boy's doctors, but Harrison told the agent his son likely will be hospitalized another day or two.

Parise said the boy's injuries were "serious but certainly not life-threatening."

Pregnant woman killed by barrage of bulletsPITTSBURGH — A woman who neighbors said was within weeks of giving birth was killed in a barrage of bullets in Pittsburgh.Police said Shavaughn Wallace, 18, died late Friday night after she was shot in the back on the central north side of the city.Commander Thomas Stangrecki said Wallace was in a vehicle talking to friends when a man emerged from a vacant lot and shot at the crowd. He said two of the vehicles were struck by bullets, including the one in which Wallace was sitting.Stangrecki said Wallace got out of the car and began running toward a house when she was shot.A neighbor said she heard multiple rounds of quick gunfire and heard a car speeding away.

PITTSBURGH — A former John McCain campaign volunteer who falsely claimed she was attacked in Pittsburgh because she had the candidate's bumper sticker on her car will spend 9 months on probation in a special program for first-time offenders.An Allegheny County judge accepted Ashley Todd, 21, of College Station, Texas, into the program along with about 120 others — mostly drunk drivers — in a group court appearance Friday."This is a privilege to be in this program," Senior Common Pleas Judge Robert Gallo told the group. "In normal language, you're getting a break today."
