Teen dies in ATV crash in Washington Twp.

WASHINGTON TWP — A Parker teenager was killed early Sunday morning after he lost control of his all-terrain vehicle and crashed in this northern Butler County township, state police said.

Tyler James Shreve, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene about an hour after the 1:17 a.m. wreck at Branchton Road and Railroad Street, despite efforts by paramedics to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Butler County Coroner William Young III said Shreve died of massive chest and internal injuries.

Police said he was traveling west and rounding a curve on Branchton Road when his 2011 Polaris RZR slid about 80 feet before hitting a guardrail and utility pole.

The North Washington Volunteer Fire Department and Petrolia Ambulance joined police in the rescue call.

A LifeFlight medical helicopter was called in and landed at the North Washington rodeo grounds. A LifeFlight crew helped Petrolia Ambulance paramedics perform CPR but to no avail.

Police said their investigation continues.

A laborer at Jeffrey Barlett Masonry in Petrolia, Shreve was a 2012 graduate of Karns City High School. He played for the Gremlins varsity football team.

The Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home in Petrolia is handling funeral services.
