PITTSBURGH — Police are searching for a suspect in the abduction and stabbing of a former director of the Pittsburgh Housing Authority.

Police said two men broke into the home of Stanley Lowe, 59, early Saturday, stabbed him, tied him up and later drove him to an ATM and forced him to withdraw $200. They then stabbed him several more times and fled in his SUV.

Police said a warrant was issued for a 32-year-old McKees Rocks man whom Lowe said he had known for about six months through a work program.

Lowe was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital. His family said in a statement his wounds were not life-threatening.

EAST SPRINGFIELD — Authorities said an 80-year-old man died in about a foot of water after his lawn mower overturned and pinned him in the East Springfield Creek.Firefighters said the man was working on a relative's lawn when his riding mower overturned shortly before 4 p.m. Friday.Erie County Deputy Coroner Korac Timon identified the victim as Donald Heidler of Lake City. He said the mower wasn't in a lot of water, but Heidler's head was completely submerged, and the way the mower was on him, he had no chance of escaping.

HAVERFORD — Seven children who had a brush with the law for selling without a permit were cleared to resume hawking their product — lemonade.Police said it was all just a misunderstanding.A neighbor called Haverford Township police July 10. He said the children were going door to door and he was concerned they might not be properly supervised.The responding officer, who was not named, told the children they were violating an ordinance that bans sales without a permit. But Deputy Police Chief John Viola said the officer didn't know the law doesn't apply to anyone under 16 years old.
