PITTSBURGH — A gunman who committed suicide after killing three women and wounding nine others at a Pittsburgh-area health club has willed his estimated $225,000 estate to the University of Pittsburgh.

The court papers were filed Friday by Michael Sodini of Mars, the brother of and executor for 48-year-old George Sodini, of Scott Township.

A legal expert tells a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper the bequest is likely moot, however, since Sodini's estate will likely be used to pay damages once wrongful death or other lawsuits are filed. So far, however, no lawsuits have been filed about the Aug. 4 shooting at the L.A. Fitness club in Collier Township.

A spokesman for Pitt says he isn't sure the school will accept the money anyway. Sodini graduated from Pitt in 1992.
