HARRISBURG — Twenty-seven trees at Pittsburgh's iconic Point State Park are going to be taken out and replaced as part of a renovation project.

State park officials said Monday the honey locust trees sit on top of water, sewer and electrical lines and must be removed. After work at the site is done, the trees will be replaced with smaller trees of different varieties. The tree removal work will begin this week.

LEBANON — Authorities who were called to investigate a suspicious odor at an abandoned house thought they had found a meth lab.It turned out to be an old winemaking operation.Police in North Cornwall Township searched the home's basement and discovered five-gallon pails and hundreds of glass beakers, jars and other containers filled with unknown liquids on Saturday.Police said the items are consistent with equipment used in the manufacture of methamphetamine, but further tests and research led police to conclude the home's former tenant, who died about five years ago, had been making wine in the basement.

PITTSBURGH — Two men were sentenced to prison for snatching a purse from an elderly woman and leading police on a winter chase that ended in the Allegheny River.Shane Harty, 23, of Sharpsburg and Chad Berry, 20, of Fineview, both pleaded guilty to robbery in August and were sentenced Monday. Harty will serve 4Z\x to 10 years, and Berry will serve 2 to 5 years.Police said that on Jan. 6, Berry grabbed a purse from 77-year-old woman in the parking lot of a grocery store in Shaler.
