PITTSBURGH — Prosecutors said a woman who improperly cared for hundreds of cats at a self-styled animal sanctuary has been violating her probation by not paying restitution, keeping horses in her name and going on shopping trips.

An Allegheny County judge warned Lin Marie, 47, formerly known as Linda Bruno, to comply or face possible jail time at a May 28 hearing.

Marie was sentenced to two years of house arrest, 27 years of probation and ordered to pay $200,000 restitution in January after pleading guilty to 12 animal cruelty charges and two counts of tampering with records. Prosecutors withdrew more than 500 cruelty counts.

Marie's attorney said she is selling the horses, which are on a Maine farm, and that Marie thought she was allowed to go shopping.

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County prosecutors dropped charges against a Pittsburgh-area man charged in a hit-and-run because the victim remains in a coma.Alonzo Cotton, 54, of Pitcairn said he might be responsible for the Feb. 21 accident that injured Ernestine Ross, 50. She remains in critical condition.Defense attorney Jim Sheets said Cotton struck something with his car but was afraid to stop in Pittsburgh's crime-ridden Homewood neighborhood. Cotton turned himself in after seeing Ross' crying daughters on television, asking the person involved to come forward.Ross' family said she is unable to breathe on her own.Sheets said prosecutors plan to refile more serious charges should Ross not recover. He had been charged with aggravated assault.
