UNIONTOWN — A father has been jailed after police say he went to his son's elementary school to retrieve nearly four ounces of marijuana from the boy's Elmo backpack.

State police say 33-year-old Ronald Washington, of Uniontown, called Menallen Elementary School to ask if his son had arrived for kindergarten Thursday morning. Police say Washington told school officials he needed to get something from the Sesame Street-themed backpack, prompting school officials to search it.

School officials called police when they found the pot, and troopers were waiting to arrest Washington when he arrived shortly before 9 a.m.

ERIE— Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri says an apartment resident won't be charged for killing a burglar with a samurai sword last month.Authorities have not released the name of the tenant who stabbed 24-year-old Delvon Crockett in the chest about 11:30 p.m. March 9.Daneri says Thursday that "The actions of the homeowner do not rise to the level of criminal conduct."

PITTSBURGH — A California man who spent nearly six years in prison for marijuana trafficking in the mid-1980s will spend six months in federal prison for running a company that sold a male prosthetic that helped men cheat on drug tests.Sixty-seven-year-old Gerald Wills, of San Pedro, Calif., sold a product called the Whizzinator along with a synthetic urine that could be used to fill the device so pilots, truck drivers and others could pass federally mandated drug tests.Wills' partner, Robert Catalano, of Huntington Beach, Calif., was also sentenced Tuesday to three years on probation.
