GREENSBURG — The National Transportation Safety Board says a Pittsburgh pilot was incapacitated from heart problems when he died in a small plane crash in 2008.

The NTSB found that 78-year-old John Haber, did not have a Federal Aviation Administration medical clearance to fly. The NTSB says Haber had been hospitalized for congestive heart failure months before the crash on Aug. 31, 2008 and his cardiologist says Haber was in no condition to fly.

Haber's twin-engine Cessna crashed about five miles north of U.S. Route 22 in Westmoreland County, in a wooded area near state Route 66.

Haber last had medical clearance to fly in 2000. Federal regulations require updated medical clearance every two years.
