NEW CASTLE — A prosecutor says a boy, 15, shot a 14-year-old friend in the head while they were handling guns along with a third friend at a cabin.

State police and Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa have not identified the three boys, and none have immediately been charged with crimes. Police and emergency dispatchers say the incident happened about 3 a.m. Wednesday in Hickory Township.

Lamancusa says the boy shot in the forehead was in critical condition at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.

Investigators say at least one of the boys brought guns to the cabin and the boys were up late handling the guns when the 14-year-old was shot. The third boy in the cabin was 17.
