SEWICKLEY — Authorities said one person is dead and three others are sickened after an incident at a treatment plant.

Allegheny County authorities said the victims were in a 30-foot hole at the Sewickley Wastewater Treatment plant shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.

One person died and three others were taken to the hospital, according to Tom Rabickow, a forensic supervisor with the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police said a worker who was down in the hole radioed for help after becoming faint. Authorities said three other workers then went in to help and ended up passing out.

PHILADELPHIA — One of two counselors suspended after the heat death of an autistic man left for hours in a parked van at a treatment center is back at work.Woods Services in Langhorne said a second counselor who drove the van Saturday remains suspended.Prosecutors are weighing criminal charges in the death of Bryan Nevins, 20, of New York.William Nevins said his son was well cared for in his five years at the Wood Center, but added his son died because of one person's neglect.

UNIONTOWN — A state arbitrator upheld the firing of a jail guard who falsified a duty log after an inmate hanged himself.Fired Fayette County guard Barry Simon of Uniontown didn't deny falsifying a report to say he had checked on inmates shortly before Cade Stevens, 25, was found dead Sept. 12.The guard's union argued Simon should have been disciplined not fired because he changed the document due to being "shook up" by the suicide.The arbitrator says Wednesday the firing was justified because Simon actually made his last rounds 40 minutes before he claimed in the log.Another guard, Geary O'Neill, of Belle Vernon, was fired for allegedly sleeping. O'Neill didn't challenge his firing, but has denied sleeping on the job.

HARRISBURG — A third-term state senator said he will depart the job in four weeks and leave his Pittsburgh-area seat open.Sen. Sean Logan, D-Allegheny, said in a statement he is taking a vice president of community relations job for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.His departure from the Senate is effective Aug. 24.
