PITTSBURGH — Officials at the new Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh say they've spent about $250,000 trying to decrease noise from rooftop ventilation fans that are prompting resident complaints.

The residents say the fans on the $625 million hospital that opened in April 2009 create a constant hum of "white noise" that is harming their once peaceful neighborhood.

Eric Hess, the hospital's vice president of operations, says the hospital has been searching for solutions and that officials aren't ignoring complaints. But Hess says no solutions so far can give residents a "tremendous amount of hope."

City Councilman Patrick Dowd says the city has to keep working with the hospital to fix the problem.
