LAMPETER — A central Pennsylvania woman wants her son to be exempt from his school's random drug testing policy because his Quaker faith requires him to be truthful and obey society's laws.

Lampeter-Strasburg School District's policy requiring students to submit to random drug testing if they want to park on campus or take part in extracurricular activities shouldn't apply to her son, Janet Malin told the district's board on Monday.

"It is my belief that requiring adherence to this policy calls into question our practice of a core tenet of our religion," said Malin, whose family belongs to the Religious Society of Friends.

Malin's son applied for a school parking permit but was denied when he refused to sign the drug-test form, the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era reported in Wednesday's editions.
