PITTSBURGH — A Western Pennsylvania couple is suing Consol Gas saying the firm isn’t paying proper royalties for drilling rights on their property and is wrongly deducting fees for post-production costs.

Attorneys for the Hall family of Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County, say they want a judge to declare the suit a class-action. The attorneys believe there may be as many as 1,000 similar plaintiffs.

A Consol spokeswoman says the company is still evaluating the lawsuit, but added that Consol pays royalties “in accordance with the terms of its leases” and will correct any errors if they occurred.

Consol acquired the leases earlier this year from Energy Corporation of America, which was named in a similar, but separate suit last week filed in U.S. District Court, Pittsburgh.
