BROWNSVILLE — A western Pennsylvania stepfather allegedly assaulted during a dispute over flowers on his late wife’s grave has died, and an autopsy will determine whether a stepson already jailed on assault charges will now be charged with homicide.

State police say 69-year-old Charles Rodeheaver, of Uniontown, died at a Pittsburgh hospital on Wednesday.

Fayette County prosecutors say 49-year-old Scott Rodeheaver of Jefferson, Greene County, twice punched his stepfather during a Dec. 2 argument outside a diner. Charles Rodeheaver hit his head on concrete as he fell. Authorities say the stepson was angered that his stepfather had removed flowers the younger man put on his mother’s grave.

Scott Rodeheaver’s attorney, Sam Davis, called the case “a very sad incident.”
