Murder-suicide under investigation

Police work Saturday at the site of a murder at 1200 Butler Road in Buffalo Township. The woman, who later died, was shot as she sat in her car, police said.

A Pittsburgh man committed suicide at a cemetery in Hazelwood Saturday after allegedly shooting and killing a Freeport woman who had a protection from abuse order against him, state police said.

Nicholas Domek III, 72, was found dead in Cavalry Cemetery with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after allegedly shooting Mary Jo Kornick. The 62-year-old woman left work around 3 p.m. and was involved in an accident on Route 356 in Buffalo Township when police said Domek allegedly drove up and shot at her.

Police are continuing to investigate how and why Domek came to be in the area around the same time Kornick left work.

Investigators report Kornick was alive when the first emergency responders arrived on scene, but was later pronounced dead at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
