TARENTUM — Sears says it is closing its Sears Grand store at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills near Pittsburgh, idling 97 workers there.

The mall is in Frazer Township on Route 28.

The retail giant’s spokesman, Howard Riefs, says the mid-January closing is part of the chains efforts to “accelerate the transformation of our business model.”

The store will begin a liquidation sale Oct. 31.

Employees will receive a severance package and can apply for jobs at other Sears and Kmart stores.
