NEW KENSINGTON — A western Pennsylvania police officer has been hospitalized after a head-on collision, and police say they expect to charge the other driver, who they suspect had been drinking

Fifty-five-year-old Officer Ted Meixelsberger was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital today where his condition was not immediately available.

Police say the Lower Burrell officer was on patrol on state Route 780 when a car driven by 22-year-old Jessica Blandford of New Kensington crossed the center line of the highway and hit the officer's sport-utility vehicle.

Police say Blandford is in serious condition at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.

It was not immediately clear if Blandford has an attorney.
