PITTSBURGH — A woman believed to be Pennsylvania’s oldest resident has celebrated her 111th birthday.

Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl declared Thursday “Flossie Carter Day” in honor of the city’s most venerable resident.

Carter tells WTAE-TV it “a bit of a miracle” to reach 111 years.

Carter was born in Birmingham, Ala. in 1900. She worked for the Works Project Administration following the Great Depression and later moved to Pittsburgh.
