Police say they found $30,000 in drugs hidden under the hood of a North Carolina man's car when they responded to the scene of an accident in Pittsburgh.

Investigators say the drugs were found hidden in the car Monday evening following the crash on Pittsburgh's North Side. Officials say firefighters spotted the drugs after raising the hood because they were concerned the car could catch fire.

James Chirstiansen Jr. allegedly had numerous bags of mushrooms, 200 ecstasy pills and 11,000 hits of LSD among the drugs hidden beneath the hood.

Authorities say one man was killed and four other people wounded in a pair of shootings that happened within a mile of each other in adjacent Pittsburgh neighborhoods.Police said the first shooting happened shortly after 6 p.m. Monday in the Beltzhoover section, sending two people to the hospital in stable condition and left a third apparently grazed by a bullet.About 20 minutes later, police were called to another shooting in the Knoxville section, where one man was found dead in a car and another person was wounded.Police officials said they have not yet determined whether there was any connection between the two shootings.

Manfred Honeck, the musical director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is taking a voluntary 10 percent pay cut in line with a decrease of 9.7 percent agreed to by musicians in their new three-year contract.Symphony officials wouldn't comment on Honeck's salary for the coming season. But federal tax forms on the orchestra's website show Honeck was paid $546,700 for the fiscal year that ended Aug. 31, 2010.
