Wehner chosen as Pirates road announcer
PITTSBURGH - Former Pittsburgh Pirates infielder John Wehner will serve as a radio and TV analyst for the team's away games this season.
Steve Blass, the former Pirates pitcher who has been a broadcaster since the mid-1980s, is working only home games this season. The other Pirates announcers - Lanny Frattare, Greg Brown and analyst Bob Walk - are unchanged.
Wehner played 14 seasons in the majors, 11 with the Pirates, batting .249 with 54 RBI in 461 career games. He hit the last home run in Three Rivers Stadium during the final game there on Oct. 1, 2000.
Wehner, who last played in the majors in 2001, was a coach for the Pirates' Double-A Altoona farm club in the last two seasons.
