MECHANICSBURG — More than 300 Pennsylvania State Police troopers who have served in the military since the 9-11 terrorist attacks were honored on Thursday at a ceremony that included Gov. Tom Corbett and other officials.

The event at the Naval Support Activity Center in Mechanicsburg, developed by Corbett's state police commissioner, Frank Noonan, was described as the first of its kind.

“By wearing that second uniform, the uniform of our military, you have ennobled the one you are now wearing, the uniform of the Pennsylvania State Police,” Corbett told the honorees.

Another speaker was retired Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North, who went through six months of Marine Corps officer training with Noonan about four decades ago.

The troopers were given the military service award.
