2 hospital employees charged with stealing
CRANBERRY TWP — Two employees are accused of stealing $2,000 in medical supplies last year from UPMC Passavant Hospital.
Patricia Niesen, 62, of Freedom is charged with misdemeanor conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, and June Drozdowski, 45, of Cranberry Township is charged with felony conspiracy and felony theft by unlawful taking.
Drozdowski is a registered nurse. Niesen is not listed as a licensed professional on the Pennsylvania Department of State website.
UPMC security called township police about the thefts after receiving an anonymous tip through its compliance hot line, according to court records. The tipster identified both defendants and said that the contraband was kept in Drozdowski’s locker at the hospital.
Police searched the locker on Dec. 14 and allegedly found stolen property. Both women gave statements and admitted to stealing the supplies, police said.
They allegedly took slit knives, syringes, needles, multiple types of medication and other items. The total estimated value of the stolen items was $2,002.
Drozdowski was charged March 24 and released on nonmonetary bail. Niesen, facing only misdemeanors, was not taken to prison. She was charged March 22.
