Sorry, I have been away for a while, looks like the same old blah blah blah so nothing missed. One item did catch my attention, Ruth your post was the one. This solution of giving people a million dollars with stipulations sounds pretty cut and dried and very neatly packaged. Question; what do you do after you have given the millions of dollars away and 90 % of them do everything asked of them but they squander the rest away? I can guarantee you it will happen. A million bucs isn't nearly as much as you think it is in today's money. Once the money is gone and these folks still need, do you put them on welfare or give them back their old job or what. They won't go away. My point is the plan needs allot more thought. I have heard many plans by many people. Another plan to help the economy was by Fred Honsberger KDKA. He put the question out to everyone, to help the economy should we put stipulations on welfare and social security? The stipulations being; if the applicants fail a drug test that their benefits would be cut off. Well, in a perfect world of course this would be an excellent idea, I am all for it. The kicker, well here it is folks. Many people are on welfare because they are drug addicts! They actually receive benefits because their addiction is seen as a handicap, also, the same with social security. People have been so debilitated by drugs that their addictions have made them eligible for government handouts! In layman's terms folks, our tax dollars not only support drugs and drug users it probably buys the drugs as well. The problem is we have many honest folks out there that need assistance who are not drug users, but they get all lumped together with the ones who are making a career out of it. Pretty slick eh, why work when you get everything for free including drug money? This has been going on for ever so now we all have the mess we have today. So what do we do? Good topic for discussion. Do we change the rules for welfare requiring everyone to pass a drug test who receives it and just throw the drug addicts to the wolves and let them fend for themselves?; or do we continue on the same faulty path and deny our honest hard working folks their just dues? The age to collect full SS benefits for our elderly keeps climbing. Before you know it you will have to be a hundred. There just isn't enough $$$$ to go around. However if we do cut these drug addicts off what will become of them? Some of them might be your loved ones. Good discussion fodder I think. I am very interested in hearing everyone's thoughts. John
