Treesdale designed by golf legend Palmer
Seven major PGA wins, five major Senior victories, PGA player of the year in 1960 and 1962 - the list goes on.
Yes, Arnold Palmer knows the game of golf.
Those fortunate enough to have played at Treesdale Golf Club know first hand the wealth of knowledge the legend brings to the links.
The 27-hole Gibsonia golf course was designed by the Latrobe native.
The original layout of 18 holes, consisting of the Orchard and Grove courses, opened in 1994.
The third nine holes, known as the Lakes Course, was designed by Palmer and added in 1998.
"The course has a great reputation," said Treesdale golf professional Joe Boros. "When you have nice fairways and good greens, it becomes a well-known course."
Boros, a resident of Saxonburg, has been the golf pro at Treesdale since 1997.
"The first time I golfed here was back in 1995," said Boros. "I liked it right from the start. It was a challenging course.
"I was here when they opened the Lakes Course and Palmer came up for that. Getting to play a round with him, that was awesome."
Treesdale is a private golf club with roughly 650 members.
"I guess people who aren't from the area might not know that the course was designed by Arnold Palmer, but most people around here do.
"Sometimes you take it for granted when you get to golf it all the time."
Treesdale offers five different tee levels, ranging from professional down to junior golfers.
No matter what two courses are combined to make 18 holes, the total distance works out to about 7,100 yards.
A statement appearing on the Treesdale Golf and Country Club website reads: "Mr. Palmer's design philosophy is that a golf course should be beautiful, challenging but fair, constantly demanding but always playable for all caliber of golfers.
"Bent grass tees, fairways and greens, strategically placed bunkers and well-placed water hazards all work together to deliver a memorable round of golf."
"The most difficult holes here are the par threes," said Boros. "There's only two of them that could be considered short. And the longer ones are between 210 and 230 yards."
Treesdale's longest hole is No. 1 on the Grove Course (593 yards, gold tees). The shortest is No. 5 on the same nine, 155 yards.
Treesdale has been a popular spot for several of the region's top events.
"We give the course to the Tri-State PGA and they've held several pro-ams here," said Boros. "The Pennsylvania Amateur has come here, along with the Pittsburgh Open. The WPIAL finals have also been held here."
