Saxonburg used a 20-hit attack to remain alive in the Region 7 American Legion Baseball Tournament Wednesday night in State College.

After dropping a 21-2 decision to host State College earlier in the day - the completion of a game suspended by rain the previous night - Saxonburg faced Indiana in an elimination game.

Winning pitcher Zach Toth was the beneficiary of the 20 hits as Saxonburg posted an 18-10 victory. It took a 10-5 lead into the ninth inning before the teams combined to score 13 runs in the final frame.

Kevin Bacon had two singles, a double and scored four runs to lead the outburst. Bob Kruth and John Lefebvre scored three runs each.

Toth pitched all nine innings for Saxonburg, helping the team improve its pitching situation for the remainder of the tournament.

Saxonburg plays Bellefonte at 4 p.m. today. The loser is ousted from the double-elimination competition. The winner plays at 11 a.m. Friday against the winner of the State College-St. Michael's contest.

Saxonburg trailed State College 6-2 in the fifth inning when play was suspended Tuesday. When the game resumed Wednesday, State College added a run in the seventh before scored 14 runs in the eighth.

"They just pounded us," Saxonburg manager Jim Bacon said. "But we came back strong against Indiana."

Nick Bathurst and Paul Eckley combined for four hits and six runs in the State College victory.
