PITTSBURGH — The second most populous county in Pennsylvania has raised property taxes by 1 mill to prevent various service cuts.

Allegheny County Council approved the rate hike Tuesday for property owners in Pittsburgh and more than 100 other surrounding municipalities. The increase means someone with a home worth $100,000 will pay $100 more annually in county property tax.

Councils 11 Democrats voted for the $784 million budget and all four Republicans opposed it.
