A Butler man is accused of vandalizing several residences and businesses in the city with white paint earlier this month.

Tobin Andrew Eckman, 23, was charged Tuesday, Sept. 22, by Butler police with felony criminal mischief after police said he allegedly spray painted 12 buildings.

The vandalism was reported to police Sept. 3. Police said a business owner provided security video that showed a man wearing a face covering and holding a can of paint leaving the area.

Police later visited Eckman’s home after being told the area where he lived. When police knocked on the door, Eckman answered with white paint on his arms, fingernails, shoes and in his hair, police said.

Police said Eckman then admitted to the vandalism.

Buildings belonging to The Lighthouse Foundation, Kids Count, Tani’s Pizza, Highland Ventures LTD and CS Real Estate were among those vandalized. Police said the damage is estimated at $5,527.

Eckman’s preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
