I think what is needed is a paradigm shift. Rather than offering a raise, the school board should freeze pay rates where they are for 3 years, and make the teachers pay 10% of the monthly premium for their medical coverage. In exchange for that, the board will promise to NOT fire teachers and/or cut their pay, as is happening in California and other states. I pay 20% of my medical insurance premium, and i have taken a 20% pay cut this year. I am in no mood for this nonsense, and i don't give a damn what other districts pay. If they are so great, go work for them then.
