PITTSBURGH — Portersville has been selected as a location for filming scenes of a new film starring Bourne trilogy star Matt Damon and John Krasinski of “The Office.”

Also, those casting the movie will be taking applications for extras Saturday in Pittsburgh for the movie tentatively titled, “Promised Land.”

Joan Philo, who is casting director for the extras, said locations for the film are being “scouted all over the place,” including Butler County.

She said she has a list of other possible locations in the county, but would not disclose them at this time.

The open call for extras will be held in the Westmoreland Room of the Westin Convention Center in Pittsburgh between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday

“I need a lot of people; I need men and women, I need lots of kids, senior citizens, good folks from the community,” Philo said.

“I just want the real thing, indicative of a real town, not movie-esque at all.”

Philo said prospective extras should dress casually and, most important, bring a recent color photograph.

Frances McDormand and Rosemarie DeWitt are slated to co-star in the Gus Van Sant-directed film in which “a salesman experiences life-changing events after arriving in a small town,” according to movie-lover website www.IMDB.com.

Damon and Van Sant previously collaborated on Good Will Hunting, which won Damon and Ben Affleck the Best Writing (written directly for the screen) Oscar in 1998. Van Sant was nominated for best director, but lost to Steven Spielberg (Saving Private Ryan).
