Kuwata solid in Bucs' loss

BRADENTON, Fla. — Masumi Kuwata pitched a perfect inning during his first spring training appearance Sunday, striking out two of the three Reds he faced during Cincinnati's 10-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 38-year-old Kuwata signed a minor league contract with the Pirates after pitching 21 seasons in Japan. He is expected to start the season in Triple-A, but hopes to make it to the majors.

He struck out Scott Hatteberg and Brandon Phillips in his perfect third inning.
