Police have charged an elderly Zelienople man with forgery and identity theft after he reportedly took a check intended to pay for furnace repairs and instead cashed it for himself at the bank.

In July, police said, the victim, Kimberly Dambach, gave Larry Dambach a check and instructed him to use it to pay Ziegler Heating $2,100 for furnace repairs.

He reportedly failed to do so.

Kimberly Dambach was first alerted when Ziegler Heating reached out and said they never receiving payment for the repairs, according to court documents.

On Sept. 20, she headed to the bank to investigate and the next day received a copy of the check showing that it had been made to Larry Joe Dambach, not the heating repair company, for the full $2,100, documents state. He reportedly cashed it July 31.

Borough police have charged Larry Dambach with theft by deception, receiving stolen property, forgery and identity theft.

Court documents did not list bail information for Dambach, and a preliminary hearing has yet to be set.
