The season of fall intends to come in with a snap. It felt like the opposite of the gentle sweep we are used to.

I unpacked my sweaters immediately. Shook out my raincoat. I even got a cold to compliment the crisp air!

In the next few weeks, we will be subject to sunset oranges and firetruck reds above our heads. The beauty is fleeting, falling as quickly as it came. It begs you to notice it, before it vanishes.

As musician John Mayer put it: “When autumn comes/ It doesn’t ask/ It just walks in/ Where it left you last.”

Autumn signifies a return to comfort. A reminder to slow down and enjoy rain tinkling across our roof and the soup we prepare on our stove.

As we venture into our weekly events, you’ll see a lot of familiar favorites. They will give you a chance to venture outside and check items off of your fall bucket lists.

Play Dungeons & Dragons and other war, history and roleplaying games at SIBCON XXX, a convention like no other! This event runs Friday through Sunday at Founders Hall on Butler County Community College’s campus, 107 Campus Drive. Enjoy a night of original sketch comedy written by local writers. The “Anything Goes!” Sketch Comedy show starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at North Country Brewing Company’s canning facility, 111 Arrowhead Drive. Tickets cost $15 and students receive discounts with ID at hobnobtheatre.com. This show is intended for audiences 18 and older.

The Big Butler Parts-A-Rama runs from 7 a.m. until dusk Saturday and Sunday at the Farm Show grounds, 625 Evans City Road. This event is rain or shine. For more information, visit bigbutlerpartsarama.com.

Shop the Harmony Museum Flea Market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Stewart Hall, 218 Mercer Street, Harmony. This event is bursting with great finds. Visit the event Facebook page for more information.

The McConnells Mill Heritage Festival starts at 10 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday to celebrate when gristmill power ruled. See the live Civil War encampment, join the activities and tours, and shop. Admission and parking is free, just show up to Killdoo Picnic Area at McConnells Mill in Portersville. The Slippery Rock Expo features Pokemon, sports cards, and more from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Slippery Rock High School gym, 201 Kiester Road. General admission is $5, children 14 and under enter free. For more information, visit the Monday Morning Collector Facebook page.

The Butler Fall Festival will take over Main Street from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and feature vendors, a car show, children’s activities and more. The event is rain or shine. Visit butlerfallfestival.com/ for details.
