Wild Things too much for Sliders

WASHINGTON — Rob Vernon's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Washington Wild Things a 2-1 victory over Slippery Rock in Frontier League play Friday.

Aaron Ledbetter (5-0) went the distance for the win, ringing up 10 strikeouts while allowing four hits and one walk.

Washington (19-15) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Robbie Knapp home run and Slippery Rock tied the game in the sixth inning when Nate Yoho's RBI single drove home Phil Butch.

Dan Swartz and reliever Brian Baxter kept Washington in check, combining for 10 strikeouts, four walks and three hits over eight innings.

Greg Lasinski was charged with the loss, giving up the winning hit with one out in the ninth inning.

Mario Garza of Washington was the lone player on either team with two hits. Anthony Albano and Steve Hudson accounted for Slippery Rock's (10-24) other two hits.

Attendance was 3,463.
