Late homer lifts Bums over Sliders
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Zack Kalter belted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Traverse City a 4-3 victory over SlipperyRock Sliders Monday.
The win gave the BeachBums a three-game sweep over the Sliders (10-35), who were able to plate two runs in the second inning and made it a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a D.J. Dixon RBI single.
But Traverse City knotted the game in the fourth inning. With runners at second and third and two outs, an error led to the first run and Kalter lined a two-run single to make it 3-all.
The Sliders had runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings and the Beach Bums were poised to score in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, but neither team plated a run.
Kalter, however, came up big again in the ninth for the winning run.
The Sliders banged out 11 hits off Beach Bums starter Tony Casoli, who went 6Z\c innings, but couldn't manage another hit the rest of the way.
Brett Bostelman picked up the win for Traverse City, who was led by Kalter's three hits for the second consecutive game.
Both teams will be off the next three days during the All-Star Break, then will resume play at Traverse City on Friday.
